K-12 Schools Spend More Annually on Energy than Textbooks and Computers Combined; New Technology Flips the Switch

RICHARDSON, Texas - July 6, 2010 – AMX®, the leading provider of solutions that simplify the implementation, maintenance, and use of technology to create effective environments, today announced that educators can achieve significant energy and educational efficiencies with the AMX SchoolView solution. AMX SchoolView is a unique technology solution that gives education administrators and teachers streamlined control and automation of multiple technologies, commonly operated independently - such as classroom control, distributed audio, video on demand, digital signage, P.A. (public address), bells, security cameras and emergency alerts – all from a single platform.

According to information from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. spends a staggering $6 billion annually on energy to run U.S. primary and secondary schools. As educators enter the funding cycle for the 2010-2011 school year, a key deliverable will be programs that cut operating expenses in response to budgetary restraints and taxpayer fiscal concerns.

"With AMX SchoolView administrators can maximize green savings and realize a substantial return on investment," said Michael Peveler, Vice President of Education Sales of AMX. "AMX SchoolView can save the typical district $3000 per year in energy costs for every 200 PCs and $20,000 in projector lamp replacement costs for every 100 projectors. In addition, AMX SchoolView includes a host of additional ways to help administrators cut costs with as many system-wide savings features."

The AMX SchoolView solution takes advantage of a school's existing data network and is scalable to allow integration of future technologies. It aligns to green-building initiatives that many school districts are facing as it automates management of energy-consuming resources like PCs and AV equipment, and further increases cost reductions by simplifying maintenance and support, which extends technology lifecycles.

"AMX SchoolView has helped Round Rock ISD modernize traditional classroom technologies by using a single, networked platform," commented Ed Zaiontz, Round Rock ISD Director of Information Services and CoSN Board of Directors Chairman. "By providing our teachers with an easy-to-use platform, it enabled us to upgrade the educational experience for our students. Teachers can now easily access and utilize a wider array of technology to enhance learning in the classroom."

AMX SchoolView permits a district administrator to manage a school or an entire district from one location. With it teachers gain in-classroom control of all or some of the programmed features through a small, easy-to-use touch panel unit.

AMX offers a program to aid educators in qualifying for various government funding and stimulus programs, including the still available American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. AMX SchoolView exemplifies the result the government is hoping to achieve through funding programs such as ARRA, as it’s a solution that not only enhances the learning environment but provides tremendous budgetary relief by reducing costs and enabling more to be done with less equipment and resources.
