New Technology Streamlines a Campus' IT, Audiovisual and Security Systems on One Platform, Simplifies Alert Notification System Usage While Maximizing Effectiveness

RICHARDSON, TX - September 7, 2010 - AMX®, the leading provider of solutions that simplify the implementation, maintenance, and use of technology to create effective environments, today announced its immediate ability to play a key role in providing K-12 schools a solution for emergency response plans through its innovative AMX SchoolView platform. The new technology from AMX will benefit K-12 administrators seeking a solution fitting the U.S. Department of Education’s guidelines pertaining to Readiness and Emergency Management for School (REMS) funding.

AMX SchoolView is a unique technology solution that gives education administrators and teachers streamlined control and automation of multiple technologies, commonly operated independently - such as classroom control, distributed audio, video on demand, digital signage, P.A. (public address), bells, security cameras and emergency alerts - all from a single platform.

The Department of Education's $28.8 million Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) discretionary grant program will enable 98 school districts in 28 states to improve plans that address all four phases of emergency management: prevention-mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

"The safety of students on campus is paramount. The right technology can go a long way in aiding school administrators achieve this goal simply and more effectively," said AMX Vice President of Education Michael Peveler. "Since the AMX SchoolView solution integrates a campus' video cameras, video displays, alert messaging systems, and more, on a single platform, users are empowered in ways previously not possible."

In the event of an emergency (lockdown, weather, fire) the AMX SchoolView emergency alert feature can power all projection systems and show an alert graphic with a custom text crawl specific to the emergency and send an 'ALL CLEAR' when needed. Through the password protected enhanced phone interface administrators can trigger an MP3 bell, make a live public address to target zones and or trigger an emergency alert.

The AMX SchoolView solution provides security camera integration. The security camera feature provides campuses the opportunity to access IP-based motion JPEG networked cameras on the touch panel, access control to open doors remotely, panic buttons in the classroom and email alerts when an alarm is triggered. The REMS funding is designed to support efforts by LEAs to create, strengthen, and improve emergency management plans at the district and school-building levels. Funds may be used to coordinate with local emergency responders, including fire, police, and health and public health agencies; conduct drills and exercises; purchase emergency supplies and equipment; and to provide emergency response procedures.
