Electro-Voice Microphones shine at the Taste

For the last 21 years, the New Year’s holiday has seen the Tasmanian capital of Hobart playing host to The Taste festival. This festival is a showcase of what the state has to offer in food and beverages. In addition, the festival offers a myriad of entertainment including local, national and international performers covering a wide spectrum of styles. The events speakers and performers were heard in pristine clarity thanks to microphones from Electro-Voice.

The highlights of the showcase are booths offering fresh seafood, dairy products like cheese, as well as fruits, vegetables and a burgeoning premium wine industry. The festival takes place on the Hobart waterfront and is run by the city council.

The main stage of the festival during the day was the “Silo’s Stage” which then transformed into the “After Taste Club” at night. In addition to hosting the headline music acts, this stage was also the main location for the official opening ceremony as well as the awards presentations and a daily cooking expose.

The venue was well served by a full kit of Electro-Voice microphones. The microphone kit was specified by visiting engineer Phill Webb who has been specifying EV microphones for over twenty years.

The main stage entertainment varied from folk and country to hip-hop, latin and a swing big band. Phill is a particular fan of the RE 510 that he describes as his “get out of jail” microphone; “It’s just the most versatile unit in the kit, it can do everything from vocals, including lectern as well covering percussion, brass, strings and any other weird and wonderful things that make their appearance on stage.” Though it is a supercardioid condenser, the RE 510 is amazing because of it’s off mic performance providing the ability to get good gain before feedback out of soft instruments.

The Taste festival this year attracted record crowds with EV microphones contributing to some great performances and much enjoyment at the Silo’s Stage and After Taste Club.
