Jess Ashby awarded NSCA Education Foundation Robert Bosch Scholarship

Bosch Security Systems, Inc., Communications Systems Division is delighted to present Jess Ashby with the National Systems Contractors Association (NSCA) Education Foundation Robert Bosch Scholarship. A native of northern Virginia, Ashby, 22, will receive a $2,500 scholarship, which is dedicated to the memory of Robert Bosch and awarded to students entering the commercial electronics systems industry.

Ashby, who at 18 first received his CTS credentials from InfoComm, has already accrued considerable hands-on experience as both a performer and a technician. An actor and string musician since elementary school, he became assistant technical director at his high school, as well as an AV and later an information technician at a conference center near D.C. He subsequently enrolled in the technical theatre program at Christopher Newport University (Newport News, VA), and became an active member of the IT department and the tech staff at the university’s Ferguson Center for the Arts. “I chose CNU because of the Ferguson Center, a very well-equipped facility and a great environment in which to develop one’s skills,” he explains. “In addition to what I have learned about IT and AV, I have gained a great deal of hands-on audio and theatrical lighting experience working with FOH engineers and on the wide range of touring shows that have come through the Center.”

Ashby is currently working as a product specialist for TMB, a worldwide entertainment technology distributor based in Los Angeles. “I’m gaining valuable experience during my time there and hope to continue with the company after I graduate from CNU.” With plans to become a professional trainer and later a consultant in the industry, Ashby believes that “the coming years will be extremely exciting in terms of the convergence of AV, IT, and theatrical systems. I’m grateful to Bosch and the NSCA for contributing towards my continued education in a field to which I hope to make a substantial contribution.”

Education and training are a top priority for Bosch’s Communications Systems Division. Daniel Nix, Vice-President of Sales – Americas, was recently elected to the board of the NSCA Education Foundation. “On behalf of all of us at Bosch, I would like to offer our congratulations to Jess,” says Nix. “He’s the kind of bright, young talent that is going to lead our industry forward – we’re honored to partner with our colleagues at the NSCA Education Foundation to help him on his way towards a successful career.”
