Electro-Voice Sound for World Junior Track and Field Event
September 30th, 2010

Since purchasing their Electro-Voice XLC-DVX compact line-array loudspeaker system in early 2010, Sound Specialists, Inc. (SSI) of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, have found their new rig provides both excellent audio performance and rigging flexibility to address a wide range of applications.

One recent large event for which SSI deployed the XLC was at the opening ceremonies of World Junior Track and Field Event, held at the brand-new Moncton Stadium. SSI was involved in many aspects of the production, including the event opening ceremony, for which they added a number of new boxes to their XLC rig.

“We had to cover three different seating sections,” says Lee Forster of SSI. “To achieve this, we used four stacked arrays of three XLC tops over a single Xsub enclosure, all secured on dollies placed around the field. The system was powered by EV P3000 amplifiers and processed via EV Dx38 system controllers. The end field was covered by five XLD281 (dual 8-inch) line-array elements in a similar configuration, also coupled with a single Xsub. We also used 12 Sx300 two-way boxes in place to act as monitors for the performers on the field for the opening entertainments, which included gymnastics and dance. The clarity and coverage was superb. The organizers were thrilled with the way things sounded – we actually received another contract to provide sound at the same venue on the strength of this project.”
